Basement Finishing

Basement Finishingin the Twin Cities

Trust Works is a Minnesota general contractor that turns unfinished basements into warm, dry living space. We start with moisture control and insulation, the part we built our name on, and build the rooms you want on top of it. Based in Savage, with 20+ years of experience.

The Cheapest Square Footage You Own

Your best room is under your feet.

Most Minnesota homes are sitting on hundreds of square feet of unfinished space that already has a roof, a foundation, and heat nearby. Finishing a basement is almost always the least expensive way to add real living space: a family room, a guest suite, an office, a gym, or the teen hangout that gives the rest of the house its quiet back.

It is also the room where construction mistakes cost the most. Concrete is cold and damp by nature, and a basement finished without moisture control and proper insulation will smell musty, feel clammy, and grow mold behind the walls. Trust Works starts every basement with the envelope, because we insulate buildings for a living, and then builds the finished space on top of a dry, warm foundation.

Moisture First

Dry and warm before drywall.

The difference between a basement that feels like the upstairs and one that feels like a basement is decided before the first sheet of drywall goes up. Foundation walls and rim joists need insulation that can handle contact with concrete and stop warm indoor air from condensing on cold surfaces. Closed-cell spray foam is the workhorse here: it insulates, air-seals, and acts as its own vapor barrier in one pass.

We evaluate grading, existing moisture, and the mechanicals before finalizing the plan. Then the buildout proceeds like any quality remodel: framing, electrical, inspections, drywall, flooring, and trim, with egress and ceiling-height requirements designed in from the start.

Closed-cell foam on rim joists and foundation walls, the assemblies batts handle worst
Egress windows planned in wherever a bedroom is part of the design
Bathroom and wet bar rough-ins coordinated while the floor is open
Flooring chosen for concrete slabs, warm and stable through the seasons
What It Becomes

One level, many lives.

A finished basement is the most flexible space in the house. These are the buildouts we are asked for most, and most projects combine two or three.

Family & Media Space

The everyday workhorse

Open family rooms with lighting layouts that erase the basement feel
Media walls and sound-friendly rooms for movies and gaming
Play areas that keep the toys off the main level
Wet bars and kitchenettes for entertaining

Suites & Work Space

Rooms that earn their keep

Guest and in-law suites with bedrooms, egress, and full baths
Home offices with the quiet the main floor cannot offer
Home gyms with durable flooring and ventilation
Laundry and storage designed in, not left over

Whatever the mix, the envelope work underneath is the same: dry, air-sealed, and insulated to keep the space comfortable in February.

How It Works

Our four-step process.

STEP 01

Assess & Design

We inspect the space for moisture and mechanicals, talk through how you want to use it, and lay out a plan with a written estimate.

STEP 02

Envelope & Rough-In

Insulation, air sealing, framing, and the plumbing and electrical rough-ins go in first, with permits and inspections handled.

STEP 03

Buildout

Drywall, ceilings, doors, and flooring turn the shell into rooms, with the site kept clean and contained.

STEP 04

Finish & Walkthrough

Trim, paint, fixtures, and punch list, then we walk the finished level with you before handing it over.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions.

It depends on the square footage, whether a bathroom or bedroom is in the plan, and the level of finish. Because layouts and existing conditions vary so much, we give you a clear written estimate after walking the space, with the scope broken out so you can see where the budget goes.
