Home Additions

Home Additionsin the Twin Cities

Trust Works is a Minnesota general contractor that designs and builds home additions: room additions, bump-outs, second stories, and four-season conversions. One crew from footings to finish, tied cleanly into the house you already love. Based in Savage, with 20+ years of experience.

More Room, Same Address

Grow the house instead of leaving it.

Sometimes the house is right but the square footage is not. An addition lets you keep the neighborhood, the schools, and the yard you like while getting the primary suite, family room, mudroom, or extra bedroom the house never had. Done well, an addition reads like it was part of the original design, inside and out.

An addition is genuinely a small construction project: footings, framing, roofline, siding, windows, mechanicals, and finishes, all tied into a house that people are living in. That is general contractor work, and it is what Trust Works does. One crew plans the project, pulls the permits, coordinates the trades, and stays accountable until the new rooms are finished and the seam with the old house has disappeared.

Types of Additions

Four ways to add on.

The right addition depends on your lot, your foundation, and what you need the space to do. These are the main paths, and we help you pick the one that gets the most room for the money.

Room Additions & Bump-Outs

Build outward

Single-room additions for family rooms, bedrooms, or a primary suite
Smaller bump-outs that relieve a cramped kitchen or entry
New foundations with footings below Minnesota frost depth
Rooflines and siding blended into the existing house

Second Stories & Conversions

Build upward or convert

Second-story additions where the lot cannot grow outward
Attic and bonus-room conversions over garages
Porch conversions into true four-season rooms
Structural work engineered and inspected properly

Not sure which direction makes sense? We look at the lot, the structure, and the budget together and tell you what we would build on our own house.

Tied In, Not Tacked On

The seam is the craft.

Anyone can put a box next to a house. The craft of an addition is in the tie-in: a roofline that drains and vents correctly where new meets old, framing that carries its loads into proper footings, siding and trim that line up, and floors that meet without a step you never wanted. We plan the tie-in first, because it is the part you cannot fix cheaply later.

The other half of a good addition is invisible. New walls and roofs get air-sealed and insulated to modern standards, which usually makes the addition the most comfortable room in the house, and we take the opportunity to improve the envelope where the two structures join. Heating and cooling are extended and sized so the new space holds temperature with the rest of the home.

Footings below frost depth so the addition never heaves away from the house
Roof and wall tie-ins flashed and sealed against Minnesota freeze-thaw cycles
New assemblies insulated and air-sealed to modern standards from day one
Permits, engineering, and inspections handled as part of the project
How It Works

Our four-step process.

STEP 01

Feasibility & Design

We walk the site, talk through setbacks, structure, and budget, and turn the idea into a buildable plan and written estimate.

STEP 02

Permits & Prep

Drawings, permits, and material orders happen before ground breaks, so the build is not waiting on paperwork.

STEP 03

Shell & Tie-In

Foundation, framing, roof, windows, and siding go up and get woven into the existing structure, weathertight as early as possible.

STEP 04

Finish & Walkthrough

Mechanicals, insulation, drywall, and finishes complete the space, ending with a full walkthrough of the new rooms.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions.

It varies widely with size, foundation type, and what the space contains. A bathroom-and-bedroom suite costs more per square foot than a family room. We scope your project on site and give you a written estimate that breaks out the major pieces so you can make real decisions.
