Open Cell Spray FoamInsulation in Minnesota
Trust Works installs open-cell spray foam where it does the most good: a cost-effective air seal for walls, ceilings, and vaulted roofs, with excellent sound dampening and complete cavity fill. Fully insured, with 20+ years of experience.
A soft, expanding air seal for large spaces.
Open-cell spray foam is a lighter, lower-density foam that expands dramatically as it cures, filling every corner of a framing cavity. Its cells are open, which makes the finished foam soft and spongy rather than rigid. That expansion and the complete fill it delivers make it an excellent, cost-effective air seal for the large interior areas of a home.
Because it uses less material to fill more space, open-cell foam is often the smarter spend for walls, ceilings, and vaulted or cathedral roofs, where its air-sealing and sound-dampening strengths shine and where you do not need the moisture control of closed-cell foam.

The honest trade-offs.
Open-cell foam has a lower R-value per inch than closed-cell, roughly R-3.5 to R-4, so it needs more thickness to reach the same R-value. It is also not a vapor retarder, which means it is not the right choice for rim joists, below-grade walls, or other spots where moisture control is the priority. Where it has depth to work with and no moisture concern, though, it delivers a superb air seal for less money.
In practice, the best homes often use both. We reach for open-cell foam in interior walls, ceilings, and vaulted roofs, and closed-cell foam in rim joists, crawl spaces, and basements. Matching the foam to the assembly is how you get the best performance for the money, and it is how we spec every job.
Our open-cell process.
Assess
We confirm open-cell foam fits the assembly, check that cavity depth is adequate for the R-value target, and rule out moisture concerns.
Prep & Protect
We mask off the area, protect finished surfaces, and prepare the cavities so the foam bonds and expands cleanly.
Spray & Fill
We apply open-cell foam so it expands to fill each cavity fully, air-sealing and insulating in a single pass.
Trim & Clean Up
We shave the foam flush to the framing where drywall follows, confirm coverage, and leave the space clean.
